Cokato's Temperance Hall

Cokato’s historical Temperance Hall, which continues to serve as a focal point of Finnish-American culture, is one of many Finn Halls that existed across the country from the late 1800s through the1950s.  Finn Halls hosted a diverse range of educational, theatrical and musical activities and created a thriving social network for Finnish-Americans.  Located 3 miles north of Cokato at County Roads 3 and 100 at Temperance Corner, the Hall is owned and lovingly maintained by Cokato Finnish-American Historical Society  Also at Temperance Corner:

  • The Log Cabin – Built in 1866, this 10′ x 12′ cabin was home to 15+ people one winter.
  • Savu Sauna – Built in 1868, acclaimed to be the oldest sauna in North America.
  • Temperance Hall – One of the oldest functioning temperance halls, built about 1896.
  • Lee School house – Opened in 1899 and originally located in French Lake Township.
  • Pioneer Memorial – Erected July 1949 in memory of the Finnish pioneers.
